What it costs, and what moves the number.
No price list, because a price without a scope is a marketing device. This is every factor that changes what a Verkada system costs, so you can read any quote properly.
Every quote is three things
Quotes that look wildly different usually differ because one of these three is missing, not because anyone is cheaper.
1. Hardware
The devices themselves. The obvious number, and the one most quotes lead with.
- Cameras, readers, controllers, sensors
- Locks, power supplies, door hardware
- Network switching where needed
2. Licence
Per device, bought in a term. This is what includes the cloud, the firmware, the support and the warranty.
- 1, 3, 5 or 10-year terms
- Longer terms cost less per year
- Renewal is a known date, not a surprise
3. Installation
The part that varies most between buildings, and the part that decides whether the system works.
- Containment, cabling and power
- Access equipment and out-of-hours working
- Door hardware and making good
Seven things that change the price
Ask every provider you are talking to about all seven, in writing. The differences between quotes are almost always hiding in here.
1. Is there containment already?
An accessible ceiling with existing trunking is a different job from a listed building where every route has to be made. This is the single biggest variable.
2. Who does the electrical work?
If it says “power by others”, that is a second contractor and a second bill. Ours is included and certified.
3. When can we work?
A trading hotel or a school in term time means evenings and weekends. It is not a surcharge to hide, it is a real cost.
4. What retention do you need?
Thirty days and a year are different cameras. Decide it against your own policy before anyone quotes.
5. What are the doors made of?
Door hardware is often the surprise on an access control job. Timber, glass, aluminium and fire doors all cost differently.
6. How long a licence term?
Ten years is materially cheaper per year than one, but it is a commitment. We will show both and let you choose.
7. Who runs it afterwards?
If your team administers it, that is your time. If we do, that is a managed line. Neither is free; one of them should be on the quote.
