Verkada vs Rhombus: How the Two Cloud Camera Platforms Compare

Rhombus is the cloud camera platform most often compared with Verkada in the US, and it opened a London office in December 2024. The two are built the same way, with storage on the camera and management in the browser, so the differences are in the detail.

We’re a Verkada partner. We’ve kept to what each vendor publishes and listed the sources at the end.

Architecture

Both record on the camera and manage everything from the cloud. Rhombus offers a Relay box for groups of cameras and to bring in third-party RTSP cameras; Verkada’s Command Connector does the same job for ONVIF and RTSP cameras. Rhombus makes a point of its open API.

Licensing and warranty

Both need a licence for each camera, in 1, 3, 5 or 10-year terms. Rhombus splits its licences into Professional and Enterprise tiers; Verkada sells one camera licence per device, with extra cloud retention as an add-on. Without a licence, Rhombus says footage is available as a live stream only. Verkada gives 30 days’ grace, after which you lose access to Command but devices keep recording.

Rhombus states a 10-year warranty on all its cameras. Verkada’s is up to 10 years by model, with 5 on entry-level models, PTZ and the Remote camera.

Range

Both cover cameras, access control, intercom and environmental sensors with vape detection. Verkada adds guest and mailroom software on the same platform.

Prices

Rhombus publishes US dollar list prices; Verkada publishes US list prices too, but neither publishes UK prices, so any comparison needs a UK quote that includes installation. Our what it costs page explains what moves the number.

Which suits whom

Rhombus makes sense if a 10-year warranty on every model or its open API is the deciding factor, and you have a Rhombus reseller who will install and support it locally.

Verkada makes sense if you want cameras, doors, intercom, sensors and guest management on one platform, with a UK partner who installs and supports it.

Questions

Is Rhombus available in the UK?
Yes. Rhombus sells through authorised resellers and opened a London office in December 2024.
Which has the better warranty?
Rhombus states 10 years on all cameras. Verkada’s is up to 10 years depending on the model, with 5 on some.
Can either use my existing cameras?
Both can bring in third-party cameras: Rhombus through Relay, Verkada through Command Connector, at one licence per channel.
Which is cheaper?
Neither publishes UK prices. The honest comparison is two UK quotes for the same schedule, including installation and the licence term.
